Marina Gavanski Zissis
Marina Gavanski Zissis is an internationally known artist.
Born in Sarajevo, she emigrated to Canada with her parents as a child. They moved around a lot, which enabled her to absorb different cultures and perceptions of life. As a teenager, she went back to Europe and studied Art for 5 years at the University of Belgrade, at the same time visiting the major museums of Europe. After university, Marina moved back to Canada and has been in Montreal for the last 30 years. Over the years, she has created a body of work in her Montreal Studio, which has been often exhibited.
She has a Bachelors of Fine Art from the university of Belgrade in Serbia, with Specialization in Painting from the University of Belgrade. Her belief is that art is a form of diplomacy and shared creativity which fosters understanding between people. She has been an art teacher and judge and for many years has participated in many solo or group exhibitions around the world She loves the female figure and portrait painting Marinas numerous subjects are often famous such as Leonard Cohen and Eugénie Bouchard Her international exposure and experience is a big asset to ArtworkXchange
She has had numerous group and independent exhibitions in Canada and internationally, and has been a judge and Art teacher on many occasions.
Her exhibitions include "Women Through Time and Nation" at the Ottawa City Hall, (2015) portraits of "Golden Serbs" in Belgrade (2018), "Travel through Emotion"(2000) in Montreal", "Colours of the Greek Olympics" at the Greek festival in Montreal (2004), and "Corpus Illuminatus"(2006), in Montreal, as well as "DiplomArt", in Montreal (2019). She has painted portraits of many outstanding personalities such as Novak Djokovic, Leonard Cohen, Eugenie Bouchard, and continues to do so.
