Large crowds of tourists gathered around the artist, as the sun was setting down over the grand canal. This is a large painting done en plein sir, in six sittings, over a period of two weeks. The artist has masterfully captured the shimmering light, reflecting the purple clouds across the quiet green waters of the canal, on a  late summer afternoon.
