The setting is gorgeous. It is a beach scene at Percé, Québec, reminiscent of the impressionist rendition of the rocks of Dover. Rhyn, on the other hand, has added the power of detailed drawing. This approach, along with use of proven complementary colours, helped to achieve his desired effects. He patiently waited to catch the glow of the setting sun at the right moment so that the image of the orange rocks, against the blue sky and water, is accentuated. The resulting richness and beauty of the work is undeniable.
