Pinelli had a high regard for the culture, traditions and religion of Ancient Greece and to the monuments of Ancient Rome. An extremely prolific watercolourist and engraver, he produced extraordinary detailed work, mainly depicting scenes, costumes and people at a time when photography was only a fantasy.
