What led to Rhyn painting dead birds is not clear. His daughter claims that her father was challenged by the technical difficulties and  the intricacies of painting birds colourful plumage. Perhaps, there is a deeper meaning. The sadness of death as it affects every creature on earth, even these two beautiful mallards . What ever the reason, we must admit that the artistic treatment of these two dead ducks is exquisite.
