The artist was intrigued and infatuated with his lush garden in the western part of Montreal island, where he would admire one flower after another. This is one of his many studies of his favourite garden flowers. Green against red, vertical versus horizontal, carefully and meticulously drawn, are the key components that give life and enthousiasm to what could have been a banal static flower arrangement.
